Saturday October 4, 2008 - Niles West High School
What a day! Tons of PR’s today!!!! Out of 17 men who ran, we had 13 PR’s. We are really starting to roll now and the hard work we have put into our workouts are showing. Let’s maintain this focus into our dual meet with Libertyville on Monday and get some times onto our top 10 All Time list!
Race Recaps:
Freshmen: Tim and Trevor set the tone for the day by running solidly in the Freshmen race. They both shot to the lead of the race after the first 400 meters. I was a bit concerned when I saw each of them running in 2-3 so early on, but they held on gamely for 10th (Tim) and 22nd (Trevor). Each of these guys are really learning how to run a race and are setting a positive example on and off the course for the correct way to do things for the rest of the team.
Sophomores: Great race by Noel who basically ran wire to wire in 3rd place. He looked incredibly smooth and poised the entire race. He also ended up running about 30 seconds faster than his previous PR to get his first time under 17 minutes!!! Behind him was a trail of PR’s with Bonn, Scotty, Christian, and Prentiss all running lifetime bests! I could not have been more proud with this race.
Varsity: The PR train continued with our varsity. Keith dipped under 18 minutes for the first time (I think). Pere is slowly learning how to become a cross country runner, even though he made a key mistake by missing the turn for the finish chute and possibly missing getting under 18 minutes because of it. Austin continued his week of running well following the great workout Wednesday with a 9 second PR. Andrew ran a huge race to be our 4th Varsity runner with almost a minute PR. Aaron ran solidly with a new best time of 19:23 and Daniels also continued his pattern of getting a new PR every week with another minute drop off his best time. Travis made it to his first Invitational of the year today and chugged home in 21:40! Bill Whiteside also ran great even though he was forced to stop after only 2 miles and was ready to go for a 3rd. Great Race to all of our boys today!
